ACADEMIC TUTORING
I think the main role of an academic tutor is to help build confidence. The pace of progress expected at many schools in New York can be dizzying. Students can fall behind for many reasons, or simply not be working to the best of their natural potential. This can lead to faltering confidence or disengagement. My task is to quickly and efficiently familiarize myself with a student’s learning style, figure out where the mismatch is, and help bridge the gap, all the while strengthening the student’s sense of his or her ability to achieve.
I can offer students of all ages guidance in humanities subjects. In math, I have found that I am uniquely able to forge connections with struggling students. I excelled at math in school, but because I pursued the study of English, students often find me easier to relate to than math experts.
I have a decade of experience tutoring students of all ages in subjects including American Literature, British Literature, World History, Algebra I, Algebra II, Precalculus, and more.
